Right now, hunting, trapping and livestock groups are actively organizing to have Great Lakes wolves stripped of their endangered status without judicial review as soon as next month.

The big difference is that this bill is co-sponsored by Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) making the legislation “bi-partisan”.

Their best strategy to getting this bill passed is to push for keeping S. 1514 included in the HELP for Wildlife Act. They need 60/100 votes to break filibuster and they already have 57 confirmed but still need 3-5 additional democrats to commit.

WE NEED TO COUNTERACT NOW, OR WE LOSE.

So our counteract campaign starts TODAY, because we only have until September to stop this bill from making its way to the president’s desk. Contact Tammy Baldwin every single day and urge her to consider the consequences of her decision to co-sponsor this destructive bill. She is up for an re-election this year and cannot afford to lose democratic supporters.

Miss Baldwin,

To simply say I am disappointed to hear that you are supporting not only the de-listing of wolves which is an attack on our Endangered Species Act and our Judiciary but the expanded use of lead, is an understatement. If you don’t understand the devastating effects lead has on our environment and wildlife I might suggest that you do a little research. You will only have to look as far as our local wildlife rehab centers to see the cruel and deadly effects it is having on our birds of prey and other wildlife.

Your support of the HELP Act (and Ron Johnson’s Bill) is irresponsible at best. While I would support down listing our wolves to threatened status (which would allow farms to protect their livestock from problem wolves) I will never support returning wolves to State control. You know full well that WI DNR has been ravaged by Gov. Walker. They are no longer capable of managing our wildlife or protecting our environment.

So returning them to the state will immediately return them to the bear hounder community. The use of packs of bear hounds against coyotes, bears & wolves is out of control in this state and it is clearly state sanctioned animal fighting. I know “they” have started a campaign to call and write your office but if you think the hunting community will now vote for you, the joke is on you. So not only will you NOT get votes from that sub culture you will not get votes from those of us who care about our wildlife and environment.

My husband and I will NOT vote for you and we will actively spread the word about what you have done. At this point it doesn’t matter if you lose to a Republican because it appears that you have joined their ranks in their efforts to destroy our Environmental Protections, the ESA and weaken the checks and balances that our Courts offer the citizens of this state. We will be actively campaigning against you.
