Weโre less than one week out from the end of national wolf delisting comment period, which ends this coming Monday, July 15 at 11:59 pm.
Comment here to oppose removing federal Endangered Species Act protections for the wolf – no trophy hunting!
Ultimately, if Wisconsin wolves lose federal Endangered Species Act protections, two-thirds of the population will die at the hands of trophy hunters. The last time federal protections were prematurely stripped from Great Lakes wolves, state agencies opened up brutal hounding and trapping seasons where more than 1,500 wolves were killed in just three years.
Wisconsin is the only state to allow wolf hounding and also permit hounders to run as many as six dogs on wolves and other wildlife for training 24/7, year-round. Hounders are permitted to release dogs fitted with radio collars, giving them free-reign into the forest to run down packs of wolves. When hunting hounds meet up with wolves, it is inevitable that there will be death and maiming on both sides.
Currently, outdated quotas determined back in the 1990s aim to reduce the Wisconsin wolf population by as much as two-thirds. The duration of the hunting season is too long (Oct-Feb) allowing it to extend into the breeding season, making it difficult for packs to maintain stable populations, potentially leading to the devastation of the Wisconsin wolf population altogether.
I OPPOSE TO PREMATURE STRIPPING OF WOLVES OF FEDERAL PROTECTION. SURELY CATTLE CANT OVERTAKE ALL LANDS.

We must protect the wolves, and all the animals in Wisconsin, as well as all the other states. Our natural ecology, natural environment, depends on it! So does the existence of humans!

I urge the USFWS to retain federal protection for gray and all other types of wolves. These precious animals are a unique element of American natural heritage and history and do not deserve to be decimated and driven to extinction!
The right of America to its special indigenous wildlife must not be overridden by commercial and agricultural interests.
Trophy hunting. In particular is an archaic and barbaric activity which should be discouraged by the USFWS.
The destruction of the natural environment and the persecution of its inhabitants need to be opposed and reversed whenever possible.

Wolves are a natural part of the environment and help bring things back into balance. Both hounding and trapping should be banned completely. They are both archaic and extremely cruel! Cattle can be protected by guard dogs and other non-lethal methods if ranchers would just educate themselves. Both gray and red wolves still need to be protected. Please do not change the laws EPA!!

Leave wolf’s and other animals alone as they need us more than we need them if you kill them what will our planet be like with no animals, think of that. They were here long before us and after we are dead so leave them all animals ALONE

There was a recent sheep and lamb killing in the Wisconsin Rapids area, I believe 13 sheep and lambs, some eaten and some just killed. Blamed on wolves. Most people donโt understand that this is unusual for a wolf pack, more likely whose alpha wolf has been killed and the young have no experience or control. This will definitely hype the call for total wolf control, killing. Somehow the General Public and hunters need to learn more about this magnificent species.

Wolves are very important in their ecosystems and in the general environment….they are still far away from a real full recovery…with vast lands to be repopulated yet….please do not remove federal full protection…..

I believe delisting to be unethical. Period. Thereโs no good reason for it.

This anti-wolf frenzy is based on three things, 1) superstition, 2) the lie that wolves are the major cause of loss of livestock when it has been proven that bad weather, disease, starvation, and death from birthing complications take far more lives than do wolves, and [3)] the barbaric ‘need’ to go out and kill something – anything. For those ranchers that are too ignorant or lazy to do some research, there are cattlemen that have used nonlethal methods to protect their livestock.
