Press Release: Great Lakes Wildlife Alliance Supports Petition to Regulate Neonicotinoid Insecticides

Neonicotinoids are systemic insecticides used in agriculture, landscaping, and home gardening to control pests. We are deeply concerned about the harmful effects of neonicotinoids on the environment and wildlife. Despite these risks, the EPA registered neonicotinoids without first requiring data on their efficacy.

PRESS RELEASE: Wildlife Alliance Sues Wisconsin Over Wolf Policies (Again)

Today, the Great Lakes Wildlife Alliance and Friends of the Wisconsin Wolf & Wildlife filed a lawsuit charging that the Wisconsin DNR and NRB infringed on constitutional due process and equal protections along with violations of numerous statutes, regulations, and rules when it adopted the 2023 Wolf Plan and regulations last month. Following successful litigation in the Fall of 2021, GLWA hopes to push the agency in the direction of science-based decision making meant to ensure the long-term sustainability and survival of the Great Lake’s iconic gray wolf populations.

Wisconsin’s wolf and wildlife policy is unscientific, unethical and racist

The Wisconsin DNR recently released their updated Wolf Management Plan. As wildlife advocates, scientists, and tribal members that have been engaged in the process for years, scrutinizing both the use of scientific evidence in the plan and the plan's update process, we feel the responsibility to publicly denounce that the process has not been "transparent, deliberative, or inclusive” as stated on the DNR’s website.

Yesterday, the Wisconsin DNR announced the final draft of the agency’s Wolf Management Plan. We will be cautiously optimistic as the plan moves forward for approval by the NRB and hope that the plan will continue to be critically reviewed and updated as we learn more about wolves in Wisconsin.

Press Release: Petition Seeks Hounding Ban in Wisconsin National Forest

Wildlife conservation and animal protection groups petitioned the U.S. Forest Service today to ban hounding in Wisconsin’s Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Hounding is the practice of training and using dogs to hunt and chase down black bears and other wildlife.
